When Okigbo was asked in Kampala in June 1962 to explain the source of this unusual lyric form, he spoke about the great modern composers in the ambiance of whose music he wrote the tiffany for sale lyrics of Heavensgate:[W]hen I was working on Heavensgate, I was working under the spell of the impressionist composers Debussy, César Franck, Ravel, and I think that as in the music of these composers who write of a watery, shadowy, nebulous world, with the semitones of dream and the nuances of the rainbow, there isn't any clearly defined outline in my work: this is what happened in my Heavensgate. Okigbo spoke about the atmosphere in which he worked and not about his craft as a poet. That craft he learnt in a great measure from his study in 1960-61 of ezra Pound's canzones and from the same author's discussion of the techniques of the Italian form in A B C of Reading (Pound 52ff). Okigbo's first collection, titled Four Canzones, was named after this Italian form despite the tiffany necklaces for sale fact that the poems in that collection had been completed before the poet's discovery and mastery of the form.

Although Heavensgate is greatly admired, its meaning is still a matter of unresolved debate. many Nigerian commentators, among them the poet's intimates, Dubem Okafor, emmanuel Obiechina, and Romanus egudu, believe that the poems are about Okigbo's emerging recognition of himself as "a poet of destiny" who speaks with "godlike assurance" as "an oracle and a prophet" about "the tiffany bracelets for sale time and the people" (Obiechina 210). Some of these commentators emphasize a religious dimension of meaning in which the poet.
