One father, a former long-term friend of Doo's, said he felt stupid and angry.

"There I was all along helping to facilitate his devious actions. For that I am sorry."

Doo gave one of his victims a gold bracelet and a letter that read: "You excite me more than I could ever imagine. Please marry me, I love you."

He also showed one victim pornography and asked her "Do you like stuff like that?" and used sex toys on his victims' bodies.

Pornographic photos and videos of his victims were found in Doo's home after his 2008 arrest.

Police found 58 video cassettes, 12 computer hard drives, five video cameras and sexual aids.

A second search uncovered more than 1000 CDs, hard drives, hundreds of computer disks and a number of image slides.

Doo's lawyer John Desmond read a letter of apology from his client for the hurt and anger he caused.

"I know this has destroyed a number of wonderful friends I have had. I hope that some day you will find it in your hearts to be able to forgive me," the letter said.

Mr Desmond said Doo saw his crimes as "grotesque" and took Paloma for them.

But psychiatrist Lester Walton said Doo was a pedophile and yet to show full remorse, although his chance of rehabilitation was "reasonable".

The pre-sentence hearing continues on Wednesday.
